Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
